Pearson partners with BBC Studios to launch “Speak Out for Sustainability” initiative

Pearson English and BBC Studios launch new initiative to help learners and educators around the world speak out for a more sustainable future.

Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, has partnered with BBC Studios, a global content company with British creativity at its heart, to launch “Speak Out for Sustainability.”

The joint initiative brings together educators and learners around the world to raise awareness and inspire interaction around key sustainability issues.

The “Speak Out for Sustainability” initiative will officially kick-off on April 22nd 2021, World Earth Day, and will include ongoing virtual events and discussions that blend Pearson learning materials with BBC Studios content to provide English language learners the tools and resources they need to speak out for a better, more sustainable world.

This will include original digital content on key sustainability issues such as carbon footprint reduction, water waste, deforestation, and more. Content will be shared via the Pearson English Facebook and Instagram channels. Both educators and learners can access ready-to-use English language resources based on these themes and engage with ongoing conversations across digital channels using the hashtag #speakout_for_sustainability.

Since 2005, Pearson English and BBC Studios have worked together to produce high-quality content for English language learners to stimulate discussions and learn new concepts.

Chuck Melley, Senior Vice President of Sustainability for Pearson, said: “Pearson has a long history of making a positive social and environmental impact through the way we operate.

“We recently re-affirmed this through our Sustainable Business Plan 2030 which has as its pillars learning for everyone, learning for a better world and leading responsibly.

This is why I am proud that we are partnering up with BBC Studios on “Speak Out for Sustainability.” It forms an exciting and important initiative within our wider and ongoing commitment to create a better world through our assets as the world’s leading learning company.”

"As part of our long-established partnership with Pearson, we are delighted to launch our “Speak Out for Sustainability” project, which brings together Pearson’s world-leading educational products and BBC Studios expertise in high-quality programming. We are confident that the content will inspire learners to reflect on various themes of sustainability and empower them to take their knowledge and skills beyond the classroom and into the real world,” says Chris Hulse, Head of Motion Gallery & Studios English, BBC Studios.
